Whilst the nation celebrates with beach and backyard barbeques, three young individuals find themselves alone and facing racism, oppression and violence. 14-year-old indigenous girl April (Miah Madden), 17-year-old Iranian-Australian boy Sami (Elias Anton) and 19-year-old Chinese teen Lan (Jenny Wu) are all running for their lives. When they cross respective paths with police officer Sonya (Shari Sebbens), surfer teen Jason (Daniel Webber) and failed farmer Terry (Bryan Brown), all are faced with difficult choices and sacrifices.
