Aidan Bloom (Zach Braff) and his wife Sarah (Kate Hudson) are a Los Angeles couple barely getting by financially: she supports them and their two kids with a low level public service job and he’s a struggling actor who spends most of his time fantasizing about being the futuristic space knight he dreamed he’d be as a child.
When they learn their father (Mandy Patinkin) is sick, Aidan and his brother Noah (Josh Gad), whose relationship with their dad has always been troubled, are first forced, then inspired, to make major changes in their lives. Aidan embarks on a chaotic attempt to home-school his kids, and through teaching them about life his way, gradually discovers some of the parts of himself he couldn’t find.
Directed by Zach Braff from a screenplay written by himself and his brother, Wish I Was Here tells a funny, touching, universal story of what it means to be a parent, spouse and child in the modern age and the fulfilment that can come through embracing new chapters and ways of life.
